Dyneema (also known as spectra) is really the workhorse of marine fibers. It is incredibly light, super strong, and very UV resistant. For competitive racers, however, we do not recommend using it for headsail or mainsail halyards because of excessive stretch.
We like to use warpspeed to build spinnaker halyards and spinnaker sheets and guys. Removing the cover reduces weight and helps reduce abrasion and chafe on the mast and rigging. We use warpspeed to build jib sheets and strip the front end when we can. We will often splice in a section of cover at the shackle to protect the front of the line from chafe.
